Blood Red Throne: Come death

If you’re into Death Metal, you’ve probably heard of Blood Red Throne. This Norwegian outfit features in its ranks former members of acts like Satyricon, Forlorn, Enslaved, Emperor and some other cool bands. Since their first release, BRT have been putting out some solid classic death metal, and to be truthful, this is their best effort yet. “Come Death” has everything you could want in an old school death metal album, so quit your bitchin’ and pick this up.
The vocals are awesome, really diverse, with screams, different growls, vocal effects, the works. And it doesn’t sound shitty at all. Vald, of Trioxin fame, delivers exactly what I expect from a good vocalist; creative, without being gay. Anders Haave is a fucking beast on the drums, he doesn’t blast beat his way through the album, but he sure makes some pretty brutal stuff here, all very tightly packed and entwined with the music. So far, so good.
Although there are some really killer riffs featured here, the one thing I do miss in BRT are some memorable solos. There actually hardly are any solos at all here. I have no idea what these guitar players here have against solos. It’s like a porn star who’s against cumming. What the fuck. Extra brownie points for Mr. Cucumber. Yes, Mr. Cucumber, Erlend Caspersen, that’s the bass player. Really cool bass parts everywhere, and that’s really admirable in a death metal album.
Oh, and to top it all off, there’s a very cool Gorguts cover, “Disincarnated”, which might even sound better than the original. Please don’t kill me, Gorguts fans. But I really enjoyed it.
